Strange

There was a boy

Who sat in the corner of his class.

All the others whispered,

But none spoke to him.

At first, he smiled at everyone

Then he looked around,

But later he bowed his head down.

For the whispers had turned into laughs.

Strange how children know

To marginalize

His mother was unemployed

And his father was a drunkard

He sold scrap, and didn't wear shoes.

Is being strange wrong?

Or do we teach our children

That social acceptance

Is the most important

Above all

Is strange really strange?

Or are the people

Just strangers.
